The Ultrastructure of Canine Cutaneous Papilloma1

چکیده

The fine structure of cutaneous papilloma in the dog was studied in two biopsy specimens fixed in formalin, postfixed in osmium tetroxide, and processed through the Epon embedding technic. The most prominent changes were found in the nuclei of epidermal cells, especially in the granular layer of neoplastic fronds. The affected nuclei contained inclusion bodies in various stages of morphologic differentiation. The inclusions consisted essentially of aggregates of virus particles embedded in the nucleoplasm. The aggregates were often in the form of close-packed crystalline arrays. The individual virus particles in such arrays had a hexogonal profile and measured 450 A to 490 A in diameter. In some aggregates, approximately 10 percent of the particles were devoid of the core. These observations present the first morphologic evidence of association of a viral agent with canine cutaneous papilloma. The virus particles found in neoplastic cells had morphologic characteristics indistinguishable from those shown by papilloma viruses.

Evaluation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 activity in serum and biochemical and hematological parameters in spontaneous canine cutaneous tumors before and after surgical treatment

Recently, matrix metalloproteinases (MMP), in particular the gelatinases MMP-2 and MMP-9, generally considered as tumor markers for clinical applications. A longitudinal 2-years follow-up survey was performed on dogs with cutaneous tumor. Serum samples were obtained from 22 dogs with different cutaneous tumors and 22 health dogs at the time of surgery and one month, three months and one year af...

Cytomorphometry of canine cutaneous histiocytoma.

A morphometric analysis of tumoral Langerhans cells and activated macrophages was conducted using canine cutaneous tumors (65 cases of canine cutaneous histiocytoma and 7 cases of pyogranuloma). The histiocytic origin of the tumor cells was confirmed using immunohistochemistry. The parameters of the morphometric analysis included cellular and nuclear size and shape and the nuclear:cytoplasmic r...

Quantitative Cytomorphology as an Additional Tool for Differentiation between Canine Cutaneous Sebaceous Adenomas and Sebaceous Carcinomas: a Preliminary Report

Eight canine cutaneous sebaceous adenomas and eight canine cutaneous sebaceous carcinomas were analyzed by computer-assisted nuclear morphometry in Hemacolor stained cytological specimens. In each case, the nuclei of at least 100 neoplastic cells were measured, and the mean nuclear area (MNA), mean nuclear perimeter (MNP), minimum nuclear diameter (D min), maximum nuclear diameter (D max) and m...

Canine mast cell tumours: a review of the pathogenesis, clinical features, pathology and treatment.

Mast cells (MCs) are well known for their neoplastic transformation in solitary and multiple cutaneous mast cell tumours (MCTs), as well as visceral and systemic mastocytosis. Dogs have a unique risk of developing cutaneous MCTs, and they account for 7% to 21% of all canine skin tumours. The aetiology of canine MCTs is unknown but is probably multifactorial. This article reviews up-to-date know...
